Production Description: The Lover focuses on a married couple at a pivotal point in their relationship. Playwright Harold Pinter leads the audience to believe that there are three characters: the wife, the husband, and the lover. In fact, though, there are only two: the lover who comes to call on the wife in the afternoons is revealed to be the husband adopting a role. He plays the lover for the wife; in turn, the wife plays the whore for the husband. As the action unfolds, the husband expresses a wish to stop the pretend adultery, much to the dismay of the wife.
